History
In Cambodia, Krāwāl Thmey was the first organization to work with children in need. They started the first school for the blind in 1994 and later established five special schools in Cambodia. In 2011, Krāwāl Thmey began discussions about transferring the special schools to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, and the transfer was officially made in July 2019 at the beginning of the school year.
The National Institute of Special Education was established in 2017 by Sub-Decree No. 117 (MoEYS, 2017). As a result, Krāwāl Thmey’s five special schools were transferred to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. Following the transfer, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports decided to rename the five schools as Special Education High Schools and put them under the management of the Department of Special Education of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
